Benjamin Echeverria

May 17th - June 25th, 2023

People discuss “horizons of possibility” but nevertheless stare “beyond the horizon,” their vision splitting, round eyes yearning nearer to the sun. Behind us the radio frays, sparks into static from which traces of voice emerge and diffuse. Symphonizing with our hypotheticals, it coalesces into white noise, until, looking into the sound long enough, black stars crystallize before my sight. To glimpse the localized phenomenon as it scatters: not to freeze motion, that is, nor answer the stimulus in its own language (in doing so, would we not eviscerate the question?), but to meet both stitch and fringe. Distraction, also, being an axis of attention. Adjacent or cutting across. An apparent “resolution,” then: exigency and contingency, if inversely, are likewise matters of precision; coming up against one another in mutually-perpetuating friction, suspended over that ground which at once recedes and secures the condition of the ether.
